Jobs at Pie

Why work with Pie for Providers?

Make an impact.

We need folks who understand that gender, racial and economic inequalities put up barriers within the childcare system, and who are committed to breaking down those barriers.

Child care is perhaps the most overlooked and important social issue of our time. Working with Pie for Providers means:

  • Supporting fair pay for caregivers, who are mostly women and disproportionately people of color.

  • Helping low income families - especially mothers - access child care, so that they can pursue better job opportunities.

  • Helping children access stable and consistent early care and education, which is essential to their long term success.

Working at Pie for Providers means you can leverage your expertise to deepen our impact on child care providers and families. This is a chance to contribute to a product from the ground up, and bring your own ideas to improve our product.

Work from home, on your own time.

Working with Pie is 100% remote and extremely flexible, with optional co-working for Chicago-based candidates.

We’re committed to dismantling broken systems.

Our mission is deeply rooted in a vision of equity and justice; child care is a gender, racial and economic justice issue. As such, we are committed to putting the perspectives & voices of the communities we serve front and center. It is our responsibility to engage personally and professionally in the work to dismantle structural racism and systemic inequality. Therefore, we are especially looking for candidates from underserved communities and marginalized identities, preferably with lived experience dealing with the child care crisis. We are also building practices of equity, inclusion and justice into our hiring process to ensure team members who are closest to the child care crisis have the greatest impact on our work.

We are working to actively and explicitly diversify our team.  To support our equity goals, we:

  • Mitigate bias by assessing candidates using a standardized rubric and questions that draw on current job expectations over credentials

  • Post all job descriptions with salary amounts or ranges

  • Offer flexible work schedules and hours

  • Ensure we interview at least one woman and one BIPOC candidate for each open role

We value transparency, and while we have made strides in our efforts toward equity, we still have work to do. We will always have more opportunities to learn and grow in this arena. Have more questions about this? Please ask! Want to push us on something? Please reach out. We welcome input and feedback at all stages.

What’s the process?

Screening

Each job description will have a Screening Application to intake new applicants, including some basic screening questions, demographics collection, and a section to upload artifacts of prior experience or a resume.

Take-Home Assignment

Each role will have a carefully-crafted take-home assignment that simulates the type of work the person in this job will be doing. Folks who move past screening will receive instructions and a timeline for their take-home assignment. This helps you to understand better what we’re looking for as far as skills, and helps us put your skills in context.

Interview

We’ll schedule an hour-long interview with our hiring manager for this role, and a 30-minute interview with another team member. You’ll get two touch points from our small team, will be asked standardized questions to ensure equitable comparison between candidates, and will have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about working with Pie.

This process may look unfamiliar to you if you work in a non-technical field. We believe that giving you screening and technical assessments before interviewing in person is the best way for candidates to determine whether or not this role is a good fit for them and have the most control over their application process.

Open positions

We currently don’t have any open roles, but if you want to keep in touch, submit your information via our Hiring Radar and you’ll be the first to know about new jobs!
